Top Ten Reasons for Water Quality Modeling

The following top ten list was presented at the International Conference on Stormwater and Urban Water Systems Modeling held in Toronto on February 20, 2009.

10. Prove to your regulatory agency that CSO is essentially just storm water.

9.   Because nobody is willing to fund water quantity modeling.

8.   Whatever it takes to get that word "pollutograph" into my vocabulary!

7.   To dispel the myth of “bacteria in society”- your gut flora speaking.

6.   There is not enough uncertainty in my hydraulic model, so I will add water quality.

5.  I needed highly inaccurate modeling results to lend credibility to my inaccurate sampling results.

4.   Because you believe the fundamental units of sewage flow are f.p.s.  (feces per second).

3.  Fridays at 4 is the best time to collect water samples.

2.   My wife believes quality is more important than quantity.

1.   Water Quality "Stimulation" Models - the best way to get President Obamas's infrastructure stimulus money in the USA.

More reasons:

1.    It’s the Clean Water Act baby!

2.    You won't have to worry about whether they match your spreadsheet results.

3.    Nothing left to lose - I did so poorly with the water quantity modeling.

4.    You don't  know quality until you crunch it.

5.    Because you can't afford to go to Fantasy Land in person.

6.    Because you want to live a conspiracy theory.

7.    I like Water Quality Modeling because I like precision….and logarithmic plots.
